For the gentler jobs, a fine pair of snips beats secateurs every time. The narrow, pointed blades of the RHS Flower & Fruit Snip reach right into a stem without bruising neighbouring buds — ideal for cutting flowers for the vase, picking grapes and soft fruit, and harvesting herbs.

Light and precise in the hand, they're also lovely for tidying delicate perennials and houseplants. Keep a pair by the back door and you'll find yourself bringing more of the garden indoors.
