The Bordallo Pinheiro Flora Bowl in Blue is part of the Flora collection — a botanical world of poppies, marigolds, wild roses, dandelions, mallows, and hawthorn berries, rendered in intricate high and low earthenware relief. In the Bleu colourway, the botanical detail takes on a cooler, more serene quality — the feeling of a garden in the early morning, before the heat of the day.

The cabbage, fleshy and wrinkled, flattened in shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of Portugal, a country Bordallo satirized so often. It was a clever way of paying homage to it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables, where, otherwise, it would not have been invited. And today, our cabbage is an essential element on any table and in any setting, admired by young and old alike, blooming in various colors: Green, White, and Pink!
