This 31cm beauty is hand-moulded in Portugal from lead-free earthenware, its sculptural cabbage leaves rendered in the same rich green glaze that has graced European tables since 1884. Whether it's holding a pavlova, a layered sponge, or a wheel of cheese for a casual afternoon, it earns its place at the centre of any gathering. The cabbage, fleshy and wrinkled, flattened in shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of Portugal, a country Bordallo satirized so often. It was a clever way of paying homage to it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables, where, otherwise, it would not have been invited. And today, our cabbage is an essential element on any table and in any setting, admired by young and old alike, blooming in various colors: Green, White, and Pink!
