Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Dinner Plate 26.5cm | NZ
Description
The Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage Dinner Plate is where most collections begin — and rightly so. At 26.5cm, it's a proper dinner plate: generous enough for a main course, beautiful enough to make every meal feel like an occasion.
Each plate is hand-painted in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, where the Bordallo Pinheiro factory has been producing its iconic cabbage ware since 1884. The vivid layered green glaze and sculptural leaf detail are entirely hand-applied, which means each plate has a character that mass-produced tableware simply can't replicate.
It mixes beautifully with plain white plates, with La Rochere glassware, with linen napkins — it doesn't demand to be the centrepiece, though it usually becomes one. Buy one to start, then come back for more. That's what most of our customers do.
Available in New Zealand from Villarosa Maison in Nelson, one of the country's few dedicated Bordallo Pinheiro stockists.
Hand-painted earthenware. Made in Portugal. Diameter: 26.5cm. Dishwasher safe.

Bordallo Pinheiro
The cabbage, fleshy and wrinkled, flattened in shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of Portugal, a country Bordallo satirized so often. It was a clever way of paying homage to it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables, where, otherwise, it would not have been invited. And today, our cabbage is an essential element on any table and in any setting, admired by young and old alike, blooming in various colors: Green, White, and Pink!
