Bordallo Pinheiro Hunting Deer Mug | NZ

The Bordallo Pinheiro Hunting Deer Mug is one of the most characterful mugs we stock — and that's saying something. Hand-painted with a woodland deer motif in earthy greens and browns, it's substantial in the hand, beautiful on the table, and the kind of thing people reach for every single morning once they own it.

At 104mm tall with a 300ml capacity, it's a proper mug — not a dainty cup, but a generous vessel for a real coffee or tea. The deer detail wraps around the body with the precision you'd expect from a brand that has been hand-painting ceramics in Caldas da Rainha since 1884.

This is also a genuinely excellent gift for someone who has everything — distinctive, well-made, and completely unlike anything you'd find in a mainstream homeware store. It pairs naturally with the Hunting Deer Plate for a considered gift set.

      Bordallo Pinheiro

The cabbage, fleshy and wrinkled, flattened in shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of Portugal, a country Bordallo satirized so often. It was a clever way of paying homage to it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables, where, otherwise, it would not have been invited. And today, our cabbage is an essential element on any table and in any setting, admired by young and old alike, blooming in various colors: Green, White, and Pink!
