Handcrafted in Caldas da Rainha since 1884, this iconic Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage salad bowl is one of Portugal's most beloved ceramic pieces — and one of the few places you can find it in New Zealand is right here at Villarosa. Sculpted in lush relief and finished in signature cabbage green, the 29.5cm bowl is generous enough for a proper summer salad and beautiful enough to leave on the table long after dinner. Made from lead-free earthenware, dishwasher safe. Not suitable for conventional oven use. A piece that gets passed down, not packed away.

The cabbage, fleshy and wrinkled, flattened in shape, could serve as a metaphor for the rusticity of Portugal, a country Bordallo satirized so often. It was a clever way of paying homage to it, placing it at the center of bourgeois tables, where, otherwise, it would not have been invited. And today, our cabbage is an essential element on any table and in any setting, admired by young and old alike, blooming in various colors: Green, White, and Pink!
